East Atlanta Food Oasis Project

Hello all, I’m Savvy, and I’m currently raising money to establish a series of aquaponic/aeroponic farms in a low-income housing group in East Atlanta. The goal is to enable residents to have access to cheap organic veggies and fish that they normally would not have. We all know healthy eating is key to living a healthy life. If you’d like more information of aquaponics here are some great resources:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaponics

https://www.theaquaponicsource.com/what-is-aquaponics/
The five thousand dollars raised here will be used to establish classes teaching aquaponics, smaller aquaponic systems that focus on raising crayfish, T-shirts for the team helping me put this project together, and helping other Black Atlanta communities establish aquaponic initiatives.

One of the primary goals of this project is to expose the residents to a form of urban farming, and to teach the youth of this local community the importance of self-sustainability and healthy eating! I humbly request your support to help create a food oasis within a “food desert” in an East Atlanta Black Community! If you can donate, I’d appreciate it, and the residents will enjoy it tremendously! Please share this campaign.
Thank you all once again!

Note I do have this campaign on Gofundme as well, but I want Black community support specifically to help uplift another Black community. Also, the funds raised there are supporting different resource aspects of the project.

I want to contribute!

Hello Maya and thank you for your interest! The community is a series of homes/rooming houses off of Braeburn Drive in East Atlanta. At this point in time systems will be set up at the individual homes until I receive enough funding to purchase an actual building to set up a commercial system. You need very little space for aquaponics. You could grow enough food to feed half your block in your basement with this technique. To set up the systems to run at full capacity I predict would take about 2-3 months. There will be follow up as this project is a starting point for setting up aquaponics and its variants in other majority black communities that have limited access to “real” food.

Hi, I’m interested in donating. Where is this community specifically and will an actual aquaponics or aeroponics facility be built? Also how long do you predict this project will take and will there be follow up?
